Bridge Inspector Training

Dear Bridges Colleague

Bridge Inspector Competence Scheme

We are approaching the end of the current phase of development of the Bridge Inspector Competence Scheme. Below are the latest drafts of the training manual for information and comment.

BIC - Training Manual Vol 1 Draft Report v2.2.2 final

BIC - Training Manual Vol 2 Draft Appendices v2.2.1 final

The next step is to appoint a scheme administrator who will run the scheme on behalf of the scheme owner. The steering group and the DfT are exploring ways in which this can be done. Once a scheme administrator has been appointed the training manual can be finalised with their input. The scheme website can also be set up.

The DfT have agreed to act as scheme owner in the UK with support from the UK Bridges Board and the Bridge Owners Forum who will be expected to provide technical support, review the scheme content from time-to-time and agree updates, in much the same way that amendments to the Codes of Practice are dealt with.   The scheme will be launched in January 2013.
